To open communication between the Board and parents. |
| |
Parents have the right to know what is being approved or over-looked by the Board. While not every discussion needs to be publicized, back room discussions to get policies “set in stone” without parent’s knowledge, undermines the bond of trust that the Board should have with parents. Input from parents should be encouraged; they are the closest to the student and the teachers. |

 |
To prevent policies that undermines parental roles in raising their children. |
| |
The ultimate responsibility of preparing, a child to become a productive adult, remains with the parents. The school system is for the education of the children and not to undermine or supersede a parent’s rights. |

To increase respect for teachers roles in forming policies. |
| |
Like parents, teachers have daily contact with students and regular communication with parents. Their input in setting policies should be considered with the up most of confidence. We hire them because we believe they are the best, now we need to continue that faith in them throughout the education process. |

 |
To establish respect for teachers. |
| |
Morals and courtesies seem to be lost with the youth of today. It is hard for teachers to educate children when the children are disrespectful to their teachers in class and their elders in public. This disrupts the classroom, and the children who really want to learn are the ones who lose the most. Lack of respect needs to be disciplined, and we need to go back to “Yes Maam” and “Yes Sir”. |

 |
To prevent the influence of unwanted policies from other counties or states. |
| |
A news report stated that the state of Maine was voting on issuing birth control to middle school kids. This was the final prompting in my decision to run for school board. In a time when the school cannot give a child headache medicine, they want to condone them having sex. This is ridiculous. I do not want any policies that people think are a correct way to handle problems in other districts showing up in our county and harming our children. |

 |
To provide an educated workforce to attract high paying jobs. |
| |
It is the economic cycle of life. Schools need money, the money comes from taxes, and the taxes are split amongst the people and businesses of the county. The more taxpayers, the less needed from each. One way to increase the tax base is to have quality education. The more highly educated a work force the more likely high paying companies will locate to Stanly County. The more industry, the more tax revenue. The more revenue, the more money for schools. The more money, more educated workforce. Better workforce, more industries locating to Stanly County. And the cycle continues. |

To emphasize history in education. |
| |
Our country today is a far cry from the original intent of the Founding Fathers. Their belief was that this country should work from the local level up, not from the Federal level down. Other significant historical events have been revised or left out of history courses in order to free up space for a more liberal agenda. We are now repeating blunders that we should have learned from. |
